What does Rapid Response mean for Workers?
Rapid Response is a strategy designed to respond to major layoffs, plant closings, disasters, and similar events by quickly coordinating services and facilitating the provision of immediate aid to affected workers. A NCIDC Rapid Response representative will work with your employer and any employee representative(s) to quickly maximize public and private efforts to minimize disruptions associated with job loss for individuals and communities by coordinating activities to be carried out by the State and local workforce development agencies. NCIDC's role is to facilitate the coordination of activities between the local workforce partnership, the employer and their employees.
What does Rapid Response mean for Employers?
“Rapid Response” begins with the initial contact with the employer to share information on available transition services for workers that have received a layoff notice or lost their jobs as a result of a reduction in workforce or facility closure. Rapid response activities are authorized and funded under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA).
If you are facing laying off or downsizing your workforce, changing its skill mix or anticipating a business closure, Rapid Response services can help you meet your business needs while recognizing the needs of your employees and community. The NCIDC Rapid Response representative will be sensitive in listening to your concerns while protecting confidentiality, maintaining productivity and transitioning your employees to new jobs or training.
